NITRO FITNESS

Eric Schmidt - Owner

"Welcome to Nitro! My name is Eric Schmidt and I have been working out for 30 years. In this time I have gained a vast amount of knowledge through my experience in weight training. I have competed in bodybuilding for many years winning the title of,"Mr. Evansville/Mr. Tri-State in 1996, and yes the date does say 1996, but it seems like yesterday!!! I went on to compete for many years with an office and den full of awards. I always knew in the back of my mind, bodybuilding was fulfilling, but there was something missing. I realized how much I liked helping others achieve their fitness goals and putting smiles on their faces. So after many years of training clients and working out at the local gyms , I knew that a piece of the puzzle was missing. I wanted Evansville and the Tri-State area to have a wonderful experience at a gym where they were treated like family with the absolute best equipment on the market, smiling faces, a knowledgeable-friendly staff, and that's what we have accomplished."

 Crista Carter Schmidt - Owner

"Hi! I’m Crista.  My fiancé, Eric Schmidt, and I opened Nitro Fitness in late 2007. Our purpose and vision we had of the gym we created was this:  A workout facility filled with the best quality equipment on the market plus any amenity to help anyBODY reach his or her goals more quickly.  We wanted an inviting, laid back atmosphere where members are treated with respect by a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The outcome is exactly what we had envisioned. Everyone here is an equal regardless of where is a person is on the fitness spectrum. After all, we are all each … a real PERSON!

My background relating to fitness began when I was three years old- gymnastics, tap and ballet.  Gymnastics was my favorite and stuck with that up through high school. Though, I won’t lie, you may still see me walking around on my hands here in the gym 40 years later.
I was eleven when I started running. In grade school I ran the 200 meter dash. In high school I switched to the 300m hurdles, 400m dash and the mile relay. My freshman year I was honored to run the mile relay with three extremely talented girls (a sophomore, and 2 juniors). We broke many records as we made our way to state! It was awesome! Something I’ll never forget.
As a thirteen year old my dad bought me a membership to the legendary Pit Barbell Club as a way to help my strength for track and cross-country.  Before I was given this great gift I was always enamored listening to my dad explain in detail these different ‘workout machines’ all the while staying fascinated and picturing it in my head.
My mom and dad are great parents. I’m very blessed that I have great role models that passed along the value of great work ethics as well as doing the best you can at whatever it is you are doing. However, I also grew up watching them taking care of their bodies and their health. My dad lifted weights and ran; my mom took yoga and exercise classes at a women’s exercise club.
Fast forward many years - working out and running remain in my life with new passion included – yoga!  I started competing as a bodybuilder the same year my daughter was born in 1999.  I won many 1st place and overall titles and in 2002 won the Indiana State Bodybuilding Contest, hence the title ‘2002 Ms Indiana’. In 2003 I placed 2nd in the Junior USA.
I no longer compete; I just strive to be in the best shape I can be all year long instead. In place of competing I genuinely enjoy using all the knowledge I’ve acquired from my 30 years of experience to guide others in reaching their health and fitness goals. It is very rewarding watching clients become excited about the changes they see and feel in their body.
Need to lose weight? Want to get ready for a marathon? Want to merely tone or tighten up? Need to increasing flexibility? Or is your goal something sport related? These are all goals in which I’ve help with and can share my knowledge. Nothing is unattainable! Sometimes it’s as simple as getting your hands on the right information along with good doses of motivation!
You are always welcome to visit us here at Nitro. I can guarantee you will encounter people (members or staff) who are all like family to us. I’m so grateful to not only love what I do but to be surrounded by so many special people. Opening this gym has changed my life in so many enriching ways. Come join our Nitro Family and watch how you become a part of a healthy lifestyle.
